Goldsmiths Uni Energy Centre
Computational Fluid Dynamics Study
Working for energy provider SSE, Element provided design and engineering services in partnership with JG Consulting for a decarbonisation scheme of the existing Goldsmith University energy centre.
The core of the redesign is the replacement of old, carbon-heavy gas boilers with a 1MW air-source heat pump array. The pumps are set to deliver more than 6,500 MWh of low-carbon heat annually to the campus. This upgrade will slash the site's gas consumption by an impressive 77%, resulting in an estimated annual reduction of 1,375 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamic) simulations were modelled by Element, to provide confidence to the client and planning that the proposed energy centre would not pose a risk of cold discomfort and visible plumage that would be deemed unacceptable to the local community.
